How to Get Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone in WoW

The Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone is a special item in WoW that grants exclusive appearances from Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible. Here’s everything you need to know, including how to get it, what it does, and the most recent hotfix.

Where to get the Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone

The Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone is a reward from the Dragonflight Season 2 Hero Achievement. Despite Season 2 of WoW: Dragonflight being far gone, players can still earn this achievement by defeating Sarkareth in Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible, on Mythic difficulty.

Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible is the second raid of the Dragonflight expansion and requires Level 70 to enter. You can find it in Zaralek Cavern, underground in the Dragon Isles. Don’t expect to solo it, though.

Despite Dragonflight no longer being current content, Mythic Aberrus is still tough enough to need a group of max-level players. Either form your own group or join an existing one using the “Raids – Legacy” tab of Premade Groups in Group Finder.

My Earthstone is missing — what do I do?

If you braved Sarkareth on Mythic difficulty but didn’t receive an Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone, don’t worry. A hotfix was deployed on January 3, 2025 that sent the Earthstone to the mailbox of all characters who have defeated Mythic Sarkareth. This hotfix also enabled Skyriding for the Brilliant Sunburst Peafowl featured in the January 2025 Trading Post.

If you can’t see the appearances granted by the Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone after using it, log out and back in. If that doesn’t work, you may need to wait a few hours for the appearances to pop up in your collection.

What does the Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone do?

Once used, the Obsidian Aspectral Earthstone unlocks exclusive effects for Dragonflight Season 2 (Aberrus) Tier Sets and PvP sets. This includes:

• Mythic/Elite visual effects on Normal, Heroic, and Gladiator gear.
• Disabling Mythic/Elite visual effects on Mythic/Elite gear.

Depending on your Class and its Season 2 sets, the difference may be extremely subtle or even entirely unnoticeable. You must also own the respective original appearance in order to see the Earthstone variant.

The Earthstone only needs to be used once, which is a good job, considering you can only get one of them. Future Aberrus drops will automatically gain their alternate apperances once collected.
