How to Get Mahama Skill Essence in SMT V Vengeance (Essential Research)

The Essential Research quest in SMT V Vengeance is brand new and one of the more confusing side quests for players to tackle. It requires players to find and use a Mahama skill essence from a demon in SMT V Vengeance to acquire that particular skill for the Nahobino main character. Here’s how to get it.

How to Change Skills With Skill Essences

This quest all starts with skill essences, which is where the player takes the essences from existing demons and essentially fuses them with the Nahobino. You can do this by talking with Sophia at the World of Shadows. Note that since we need Mahama, we need to use the essences for skills, not affinities, which only changes the resistances and weaknesses of the player character.

When you select the essence you want to use, you can pick and choose any of the available skills to give to the Nahobino. You just have to keep in mind that Nahobino can only have a limited number of skills at a time. For this quest, what I did was get Mahama, trade it for a currently common skill I have, and then switch back to my old skill after completing the quest.

How to Get a Mahama Skill Essence in SMT V Vengeance

The trick about the Mahama skill essence in SMT V Vengeance is how uncommon it is. Only a few demons offer this skill in the game. Here are the demons I know of currently that offer Mahama:

  • Makami
  • Parvati
  • Principality
  • Shiki-Ouji

Your goal is to obtain these demons through fusion or negotiation. You then want to level them up a few times. In addition to that, give them box gifts and talk to them in the Demon Haunt. They will be more likely to gift you their essence this way. Alternatively, Gustave will later sell some of these essences in the Cadaver’s Hollow.

Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance is now available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
