How to Get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update is out now, and that means gyroids are back. People can once again build up a collection of noisy characters. However, it isn’t just as simple as waiting for rain, then digging some up the next day. (Though yes, that is still a method to get them.) There’s a new process to acquire them.

How to Get Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

1. Go to One of Kapp’n’s islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The key to getting gyroids is to find gyroid fragments. If you go on one of Kapp’n’s boat tours, you’ll be taken to an island where you might find one. Head to the dock on your island. It will either be on the Southeast or Southwest shore. Pay Kapp’n 1,000 Nook Miles.

From there, you’ll go on a boat trip to an island. Make sure you have a shovel and ladder handy. Though if you don’t, Kapp’n will sell them once you arrive.

When you’re on the island, look for cracks in the ground. When you find one, it will likely be a gyroid fragment. Take it back to your island.

2. Plant the gyroid fragments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to get gyroids.

This step is an easy one. Head to a bare patch of ground on your island. Dig a hole with a shovel. Go to your inventory. Select the gyroid fragment. Choose to bury it.

Once the gyroid is buried, get out your watering can. Water that crack in the ground until steam comes out. This might take one or two tries to get correctly.

3. Dig up your gyroid.

This next step is the easiest one. After a day in real life passes, return to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to dig up your gyroid (or gyroids). A random one will be waiting in the ground.

You can then place or decorate your gyroid. Just head to a workbench to change its color. As for setting it up, you can place it on tables or walls in your (virtual) home.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch. The 2.0 update that adds gyroids is out now.
