How FFVII Rebirth New Game Plus Works (What Carries Over)

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a massive game, but players will inevitably roll credits at some point. There is something of a new game plus feature when that happens, and here’s what you should know about how it works and what carries over in FFVII Rebirth.

How do I access FFVII Rebirth new game plus?

As you might expect, you are able to unlock the new game plus feature whenever you beat the game and roll credits on it. After this point, you will be able to save your game for a completed game file. However, the actual feature is different from what you might expect. You unlock Chapter Select, which lets you replay any chapter you want and carry over certain elements.

This Chapter Select is basically your new game plus in FFVII Rebirth, except it is a bit more freeform. For a more traditional new game plus experience, we recommend starting from Chapter 1 and playing all the way through gain. This is also great for playing on the new Hard difficulty you unlock, which can help you work towards the Platinum trophy.

What carries over when I start a FFVII Rebirth new game plus playthrough?

As for what carries over to your Chapter Select version of new game plus in FFVII Rebirth, this is up to you. No matter what, though, your current party’s levels, relationship statuses, weapons, and other items will carry over to whatever chapter you pick. What you choose, though, involves quests. You can pick to retain your current quest completion data, restore old quest completion data, or start fresh and replay all of the various side missions.

Players who just want to complete all of the side content in the game and don’t care about restarting the whole story right now should check out Chapter 12. I love this one, because you have access to every side job, can head to every minigame, and enjoy easy fast travel. In addition, it is the Gold Saucer chapter, so you can see the other date scenes with the party members.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for the PS5.
