How to Get Dye in Mineko’s Night Market

Once you unlock The Docks in Mineko’s Night Market and clear it of agents, the game will briefly tell you that you can squeeze dye from fish. However, it’s easy to overlook how this process goes. Especially since it doesn’t have you go through it once after mentioning it. So here’s how to get dye for projects in the game.

How to squeeze dye from fish in Mineko’s Night Market

First, not every fish can be squeezed. Only some of them give off dye when you do. Also, these tend to be the higher value fish. So if squeeze them for dye, you’re reducing their few dollars rather than possibly over $100. To begin the process, open Mineko’s inventory. Scroll to a fish that can be turned into dye. Then, choose the squeeze option when selected. You’ll get one jar of dye and a squeezed version of that fish as a result.

Here are all of the fish that net you dye in Mineko’s Night Market. Almost all of them can be found at The Docks, meaning you gain access to the options early on. The exception is the urchin, which is also available at the Dark Forest lake. You can also get octopus as a prize from Itao’s Octo Pull game at the night market.

  • Blue Fin Tuna – Blue Dye
  • Octopus – Black Dye
  • Rainbow Trout – Rainbow Dye
  • Red Snapper – Red Dye
  • Urchin – Brown Dye

Note that the red dye is an important ingredient for a story-advancing craft for one quest, so having four of them saved in your inventory for that is helpful.

Mineko’s Night Market is available on the Nintendo Switch and PC. It will be on the PS4, PS5, and Xbox One on October 26, 2023.
