Okay, so there’s one point the FFVII Rebirth early game that drove me crazy, and it involved getting Barret and Red XIII out of the Mythril Mine during “Escape the Depths.” The two get separated from the group in a subterranean area, and because of the lighting it can become impossible to see where you need to climb. So, here’s a quick guide to getting the two out.
How do I get Barret and Red XIII out of the FFVII Rebirth Mythril Mine Depths Lower Layer in “Escape the Depths”
After fighting Rude and Elena in Chapter 3 of FFVII Rebirth, the group will split up and players will control Barret in the Mythril Mine Depths Lower Layer area. This spot will seem straightforward, and the map isn’t even that big! However, because of the lighting, you might not recognize there’s a climbing section you might miss.
The first step to getting Barret and Red XIII out of this trouble is to follow the path I drew on the map screenshot below. When the two fall into the lower layer of the depths, you’ll start near the vending machine, Maghnata Automat, and bench and basically want to head along the northern path. There’ll even be a cinematic once you really get into that larger area directing you to look at the spot where you need to be.
Here’s the path I suggest you follow:
If you don’t mind taking a detour, you can pick up an MP Up Material right here:
Now, the first area you need to climb up is very visible. You’ll see the green indicator on the ground and the yellow ledges to hold. Once you reach the top, you’ll be able to cross in to this smaller area. Here, you need to use Barret’s gun arm to blow away all the rocks.
The trouble spot here is this location in the Mythril Mine Depths Middle Layer map that I circled below. That’s where the second climbing spot is. Because of the rock debris Barret blew away, you might not see the indicator on the ground. Also, because of the lighting in this location, you might not see the ledges. I highlighted them in the screenshot, so you can see them better.
Once you get past this area, the rest of this campaign part with Barret and Red XIII is incredibly straightforward. There are some parts that involve pushing mine carts along tracks and flipping switches to progress, and there’ll be a Mythril Golem boss fight that you’ll need to face as the two of them, but it’s all very manageable.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available on the PS5, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.
