In Starfield, you can get a house to settle down in when taking a break from your many space adventures. Having a home can be really useful as it gives you a place to store your items, armor, and weapons. There are multiple ways to unlock the feature in Bethesda’s space RPG. Here is how to get a house in Starfield.
How do I get a house in Starfield?
There are two main methods to getting a house in Starfield, one involving a background perk and the other by purchasing property from a vendor. The quickest and easiest way to get a house in the game is to select the Starfield Trait “Dream Home” during the character creator feature. While you will automatically unlock one of the best homes in Starfield, the Moon-based penthouse will leave you saddled with a $125,000 credit debt with GalBank that must be paid off eventually.
The second quickest way to get a house in Starfield is to become a citizen of the United Colonies. To do this, you must join the Vanguard faction and complete a handful of story quests that take about an hour to earn your citizenship. Or you can select the “United Colonies Native” background during the character creator, which automatically makes you a citizen. Once you are a citizen of the United Colonies, you need to visit the Aphelion Realty office in the New Atlantis Embassy District to purchase a house.
To get there, leave the New Atlantis Spaceport from your ship and travel straight through the UC Security checkpoint until you reach the shuttle system. Hop on the train and select the Commercial District. After stepping off the ride, continue North past the GalBank headquarters and wrap around the pond to pass under the Embassy District sign. You will then see a large circular building that is the Aphelion Realty offices. With your citizenship active, you can now purchase a New Atlantis home. At first, the only option you have is an apartment in The Well that costs $30,000 credits.
I know what you are thinking. While The Well doesn’t have the best reputation, it’s still a pretty sizable house. And, after all, the main benefit of having a home in Starfield is storing your items so that you don’t come over-encumbered during your travels. There are also other housing options you gain access to as you progress through the campaign. For instance, you can purchase a Penthouse in the city of Neon for $250,000. Unlike the United Colonies, there aren’t any major prerequisites, and you can make the purchase from the city’s bartender if you have enough money.
If you are looking for the absolute nicest house in the game, though, the Starfield Dream Home Trait is still your best option. The property is absolutely massive and is essentially a private penthouse. However, if you don’t want to pay off the debt, then the fastest way to own a house in the game is to go through the United Colonies Citizenship program, as New Atlantis is one of the earliest areas you unlock in the game and is a place you will visit often. Plus, it’s also the most affordable home in the galaxy.
Starfield is available now for the Xbox Series X and PC.
