One of the ways Zelda can more swiftly get around Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is to create a carrot echo to summon her horse. However, you need to progress through the story and clear a sidequest to gain access to this option.
How do I learn the carrot echo and get Zelda’s horse in LOZ Echoes of Wisdom?
Now, the first horses you gain access to in LOZ Echoes of Wisdom are available almost immediately after fixing the Suthorn rift. You can take on a runaway horse sidequest at the kingdom’s ranch, and this lets you ride any of the ones there. However, you can’t summon them from a distance.
First, fix the Suthorn, Gerudo, Jabul, and Hyrule Castle rifts. Once you complete the Hyrule Castle dungeon and go through a brief story segment, Zelda will be in the throne room. Impa will be there and tell you that she’s had a horse being raised for the princess at Hyrule Ranch. After the conversation ends, you’ll get the “Impa’s Gift” sidequest and need to head to the ranch. If you already did the runaway horse sidequest, you’ll have the waypoint out front of it unlocked. It’s just above Gerudo Desert.
You can see the ranch on the map in the screenshot I took below. Note that in-game, a blue icon will show where you should go as well.
When you get to Hyrule Ranch, you’ll want to talk to the woman in the upper right corner with a carrot barrette. She’ll say “they” are gone. It turns out while getting some exercise, a rift opened up near the carrot patch where the ranch gets treats for the horses. Zelda’s horse saved the kid from the ranch from getting sucked in, but did so herself. Head to the carrot patch rift that is to the northwest of Hyrule Castle. Since this is a smaller rift, you’ll be able to hop right in and find four groups of Tri’s friends.
Here’s where the carrot patch is:
The four groups of Tri’s friends are very easy to find in this rift. The first are immediately to the north of the entrance. Destroy the box, jump down the ladder, get to the second floor of this underground area to push the button, destroy the crates on the ledge, and get it. Head north, to the middle-most island, and you’ll find the second group there. When you get to the large, west-most island, you’ll see a number of large boulders. Use bind to rearrange them so you can move the one in between two columns out of position, as the third group is hidden in an alcove behind it. Finally, destroy crates in the bottom-middle island to reach another underground area. Defeat the enemies to cause the final group of the four to drop.
Here’s where all four of the groups are on that Still World rift map.
After you get out of the rift, everything will be restored. However, the horse will still be gone. The NPCs say she likes carrots. While using bind on the carrots in the field didn’t work before now, you can now use bind to harvest one. The horse will appear, you’ll gain your mount, you’ll unlock Hyrule Ranch Flag Races, and the quest ends.
However, you still need to learn the carrot echo to summon your horse in LOZ Echoes of Wisdom. Use bind to harvest a remaining carrot after the story scene is done. Zelda’s horse will appear. Quickly run over and press the trigger to memorize the echo. Now whenever you want to move more quickly around the map, but not use waypoints to fast travel, spawn the carrot echo in LOZ Echoes of Wisdom to make the horse appear.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
