Perhaps the most unique Disciple of the Land class in Final Fantasy XIV is the Fisher. Fishing is so unique compared to the other two gatherers in the game, as it is basically its own minigame. Here’s what you need to know about how to fish and unlock the Fisher class in FFXIV.
How do I unlock Fishing in FFXIV?
Fishing is quite complicated in this MMORPG, but it first starts with unlocking the class. To do this, players need to reach level 10 or higher with their default job, then complete the level 10 quest for it. Once you do this, you can unlock Fisher once you are able to go to Limsa Lominsa. You can unlock Fisher by speaking with the guild’s attendant in the lower decks of Limsa Lominsa at around X: 7.9, Y: 14.2.
You will automatically get the default starter equipment for a level one Fisher upon unlocking it. Equip this and you’ll be able to start fishing now.
How do I fish in FFXIV?
The crux of how to fish in FFXIV comes down to two key elements: bait and fishing. What you want to do is get bait, which you can acquire at a myriad of places. You can get some at the Fishing Guild in Limsa, near the Ocean Fishing expeditions, or on the Market Board. Equip the bait of your choosing, and then find a water spot. A river, lake, or the ocean will do.
While standing in front of the water, you want to press Cast. This will throw your line into the water. You then want to wait a few seconds until an exclamation point appears above your character’s head. Right when that happens, press the Hook action to bring in your prize. Keep in mind that certain bait will pull in certain fish as well.
These are the basics of fishing in this MMO. It gets more complicated as time goes on with new layers, such as Snagging to get different fish, Mooching your existing fish to pull in a bigger one, and so on.
I also highly recommend the Ocean Fishing expeditions every two hours in the world if you want to grind the Fisher role as fast as possible and get some great rewards.
Final Fantasy XIV is available right now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
