Right before you head into the end of Final Fantasy XVI, there are a number of quests that involve connecting with different party members. In the case of a few, it also means adding an ally to your party for the last bits of exploring and sidequest handling you do. “Where There’s a Will” is one of those FInal Fantasy XVI sidequests, and it offers insight to Clive and his family, particularly his father Elwin and brother Joshua.
Editor’s Note: There will be no story spoilers for the Final Fantasy XVI quest “Where There’s a Will” below.
While at the hideaway before the mainline quest “Back to Their Origins,” Clive will see a notable ally will offer the “Where There’s a Will” sidequest in Final Fantasy XVI. When you approach this person and start a conversation, you need to select the “Where There’s a Will” dialogue option to kick it off. Doing so means you’ll need to head to the Dhalmekian Republic to meet with Cyril in Tabor. There’s a fast travel obelisk right there, so you can teleport right in.
After speaking with Cyril, he’ll direct you to his guest. Goditha is in a building across the way and used to be an aid to Elwin. She’ll explain Clive’s father intended to create a gift for both him and Joshua that would be useful and bind them together. However, it is incomplete. It needs Heartstones to be completed. Fortunately, there’s an enemy nearby with them. Just south where The Gilded Path leads into Titan’s Wake, you’ll find a griffin called Simurgh. Go to the place I showed in the screenshot below.
Simurgh is a level 40 enemy and, honestly, it’s sort of strong! Like it uses a number of special attacks, which you’d normally attribute to say a boss or Notorious Mark. It can use the tornado-causing Witch’s Ladder and Kingslayer, for example. Beating it gets you two Heartstones, as well as 16 Wyrrite, 16 Sharp Fangs, 800 EXP, 100 AP, and 400 gil. Head back to Goditha. Things aren’t quite done yet. You then need to head to the Rosaria map. Teleporting in at Hawk’s Cry Cliff is easiest. You want to head to Hero’s Bluff, which at the far southwest side down a small path.
This will wrap up “Where There’s a Will” in Final Fantasy XVI. You’ll come away with a Rusted Battlehelm curiosity to display in Clive’s room, a The Founder’s Grasp vambrace that is basically the strongest one I’ve seen in the game to equip, 7,200 EXP, and 40 renown. This quest also means you will be “joining hands” with the character who gave you it, adding them to your party until you go into the final story quest.
Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5. A demo is out now as well. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
