All that glitters may not be gold, but there’s a certain appeal to the fancy Golden Claws in Dragon Quest III. Maybe it’s that they’re a powerful weapon for the Martial Artist vocation for a huge portion of the game. Their selling price is certainly enticing as well. Perhaps it’s because there’s an achievement tied to them in the new game. Or it might be just as simple as being told not to touch them. Whatever the reason, if you’re looking to pick them up, we’re here to help. Here’s how to find the Golden Claws in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.
Where are the Golden Claws in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake?
The Golden Claws themselves are in the same location they were in previous versions of the game. You’ll find them in the hidden B2F level of the Pyramid north of Ibis. You can find this secret chamber by searching a statue in the northeast part of B1F of the Pyramid. You can access B1F either by the entry point to the left of the main Pyramid entrance or by falling through one of the trap floors on 1F. Once you enter B2F, follow the linear path to the end and search the sarcophagus. Boom! You got the Golden Claws.
Wait, so what’s the catch?
Ah, you’re a perceptive one. Naturally, you can’t just go in there and swipe them with no resistance. Curses and all that. First of all, you may have noticed that you can’t use magic at all in the basement floors of the Pyramid. Not for attacking, not for buffing, and not for healing. Second, once you’ve taken the Golden Claws, you’re going to get attacked relentlessly inside of the Pyramid. As long as they’re in your inventory, you’re going to have a bad time. If your party is wiped out before you leave the Pyramid, or you try to use a warp item to escape, the Golden Claws will be returned to the sarcophagus. You can’t take the easy way out of here.
How should I prepare if I want to take the Golden Claws?
First of all, it’s a good idea to make picking them up the last thing you do in the Pyramid. Stock up on Medicinal Herbs in Isis. It’s never a bad idea to keep a few dozen of these in your bag, but you’ll really need them here since you can’t heal magically. Bring as many of them as you can afford to, as they’ll be useful sooner or later anyway. Provided you’re just in it for the achievement and to sell the Golden Claws, you’ll more than make your investment back.
Once you’ve stuffed your pockets with Medical Herbs, store your excess gold in the bank at the Monster Arena just in case the worst happens. Don’t forget to put some of those Medical Herbs in each character’s individual inventory so they can be used in battle. While magic is blocked, you can still use abilities and items. The Wizard’s Staff can be used to attack enemies, and if you have a Monster Wrangler in your party you can use their Soothing Song to heal. Don’t take any chances.
Keep everyone healed up as much as possible. If even one party member falls, you’ll have a much harder time getting out. You’ll have to battle your way through B2F and B1F. Once you’re outside the walls of the Pyramid itself, you’re safe. Equip those Golden Claws to your Martial Artist, sell them off for 6000 gold, or just keep them as a trophy of your nefarious tomb-raiding adventure.
