How to Find and Defeat the Hydro Tulpa in Genshin Impact

The Hydro Tulpa is a new World Boss in Genshin Impact, and its location is found in Fontaine following the 4.2 update. Defeating it will drop Water that Failed to Transcend, which you can use to Ascend certain Hydro characters such as Furina.

Where is the Hydro Tulpa location in Genshin Impact

In order to access the Hydro Tulpa location in Genshin Impact, you need to travel to the Waypoint in Fontaine that I marked on the map below. You can find it in Chemin de L’Espoir. It’s easier to do this next step if you set the Hydro Tulpa or the nearby Waypoint as a map marker. You then simply need to walk and swim toward it on your map until you get to a really big tunnel. Follow it down and you’ll reach an invisible wall. Once you pass through that, you’ll be in a tunnel where you can unlock the Waypoint and fight the Hydro Tulpa.

How to defeat the Hydro Tulpa

As for the Hydro Tulpa itself, there are several ways you can defeat it. Its attacks are fairly easy to dodge, and it telegraphs them with plenty of time for you to react. Aside from a sweeping move, it has an area of effect attack during which it sends down spears of water around it. It can throw a water spear at you, as one of its ranged moves.

One of the more frustrating elements is that it also creates little offshoots that power it up. You can defeat the Hydro Tulpa without needing to deal with those first. However, I’ve found it’s a lot easier to win the battle if you’re on your own without allies if you simply get rid of them.

The Hydro Tulpa is immune to Hydro damage, so characters like Neuvillette are not going to be very useful, barring healers like Barbara or Kokomi. Since there’s so much Hydro around it, an Anemo support might not have an easy time Swirling in other Elements. I recommend using a Cryo, Dendro, or Electro-based team for dealing with the Hydro Tulpa. Pyro characters are also viable options, but it’ll take longer.

Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.
