How to Unlock Fast Travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Fast Travel becomes unlocked once you reach Vernwroth capital and gain access to the Oxcart and Portcrystal system. The RPG does not have the traditional “click on your map” and “warp” to a specific location feature, though. Instead, players will need to walk on foot for most of their map exploration, as fast travel is extremely limited and always comes at a cost.

However, there are two key Fast Travel systems that you will need to know about in the game, as your adventures can sometimes get dangerous quickly. Below, we will break down how the Oxcart and Portcrystal system works in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and what you need to do to unlock

How to use Oxcart in Dragon’s Dogma 2

You first unlock the Oxcart fast travel system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 after you speak to Gregor in Melve and agree to “head to the capital.” On your way to Vernwroth, you will get attacked by a monster. After defeating it, Gregor will ask you if you want to travel with them on their Oxcart.

Eventually, you will arrive at the Vernwroth Capital, where the Oxcart system will become permanently unlocked as a feature. You can find these fast travel stations on your map as an “Ox” icon. However, each Oxcart station only goes to one specific location. So you will need to find the correct one matching the area you want to visit. Below are the steps you need to take to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 using an Oxart.

  • Find an Oxcart station on your map and speak to the NPC running it.
  • Pay 100 Gold.
  • Hop on the back of the Oxcart and press “Circle” (PlayStation) or “B” (Xbox) to sit down on the bench.
  • While sitting down in the Oxcart, press “Triangle (PlayStation) or “Y” (Xbox) to “Doze off,” which will instantly warp you to the location.
  • If your cart is attacked by monsters, you will need to hop out of the cart and battle them. After defeating them, jump into the cart to continue the journey until you reach the designation.

Complicating matters further, is that the Oxcart system only runs during the day. So sometimes, the NPC running the ride system will refuse to give you a ride. Thankfully, there is an easy way to solve this. Next to every Oxcart station is a brown schedule sign. Simply interact with it and choose to “wait” for the next ride. This will automatically speed up the time until the next day cycle.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Melve Oxcart location

In the opening hours of the story, you will be asked to return to Melve from Vernworth Capital. However, there is only one station that will actually take you to the early-game area. The Melve Oxcart can be found near the northeast exit of Vernwroth. For your convenience, we have provided a map of its exact location below:

How to use Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The second way to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is through Portcrystals. In every major town, you can find the glowing purple crystal tucked away in a corner of the city. After you find and activate a Portcrystal, you can use a Ferrystone item to instantly warp back to these discovered locations.

The first Portcrystal you will find in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in the Vernworth Capital. As you explore the opening areas of the game, you will likely be warping back to this crystal the most. You can find the Vernwroth Portcrystal location on the map below:

The Portcrystal system is fairly straightforward in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Once you discover and activate one of the crystals, you can instantly warp to them by consuming a Ferrystone from your inventory. Below are the steps on how to fast travel with a Portcrystal in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • Pause your game and click the “items” menu.
  • Look for the Ferrystone item and click on it to use it.
  • A map menu will now pop up and show you the Portcrystals you have unlocked so far.
  • Click on the Portcrystal you want to fast travel to, and your character will consume your Ferrystone to warp there.

Where to find Ferrystone in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The only problem with the Portcrystal system is that you need to use a Ferrystone each time you want to warp to a new location. Unfortunately, the item is extremely rare and costs a lot of money. As a result, you will want to save your Ferrystones and only use them when you absolutely need to.

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, Ferrystone can be bought at stores, found in chests, or earned as a reward for completing quests. The first place you can purchase a Ferrystone in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Philbert’s Sundries item store in Vernworth. The shop sells one for 10,000 gold. Yep, I wasn’t lying when I said it was expensive! Making matters worse is that the store only has a limited amount of the item.

And those are the two systems of fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Unfortunately, the Oxcart feature is the only consistent method for quick travel, and those are limited as each station only goes to one specific location. Conversely, Portcrystals should be viewed more as a “return to base” mechanic than fast travel.

In my playthrough, I would only use a Ferrystone after I had completed a handful of quests and was deep into the overworld. Instead of taking days to walk back on foot, I would use a Portcrystal to instantly warp back Vernworth to hand in my quests. But again, Ferrystone’s are expensive and limited, so you will want to conserve them.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/ S.
