How to Defeat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong

Black Bear Guai is perhaps the most challenging early game boss. He is also the final boss of Chapter One, which makes this no surprise as to how Black Bear Guai will test your skills and how best you use your spells.

While I previously recommended using your Transform Spell, I do not recommend it here. This is because it does fire damage and accumulates burn. While this is helpful for other enemies, absolutely do not use this against Black Bear Guai. This is because once you accumulate enough burn, he will immediately hit second phase. It doesn’t matter how low his health is, as long as he reaches that point, he will automatically shift into second phase and light himself on fire.

Instead, make ample use of the Immobilize Spell and the Spirit you will have gained that allows for you to summon poison snakes. Poison is especially strong during this fight at all stages, so I suggest saving it for when Black Bear Guai enters his second phase. You will also want to take advantage of your Cloud Shift, but only if you feel it’s necessary. I would actually save all of your magic for Immobilize.

Additionally, you can purchase two types of draughts at this point; one that reduces physical damage taken, and another that reduces fire damage. If you are really struggling, purchase both of these and use them amply. I also suggest imbuing your gourd with the regeneration effect since taking damage in the second phase means you can accumulate burn. Dodging three times will get rid of your burn, but it’s better to try and avoid it outright.

Thankfully, Black Bear Guai is slow, which means his attacks are easy to read. So pace yourself and try to perfect that perfect dodge. That leaves behind an afterimage (or decoy, similar to Cloud Step) that Black Bear Guai will temporarily focus on.

Black Myth Wukong is available on PC through Steam and PlayStation 5.
