How to Defeat and Harvest the Ark of the Living Flame in Eternal Strands

The Ark of the Living Flame is an imposing magic-wielding boss that Brynn will first encounter in Upper Dynevron, and if you can harvest it there’s an interesting new flame spell to learn. There’s a trick to it, however, so here’s a guide on How to Defeat and Harvest the Ark of the Living Flame in Eternal Strands.

How to Defeat the Ark of the Living Flame in Eternal Strands

Unlike many of the other Arks you’ve encountered in Eternal Strands, the Ark of the Living Flame fits into more of a mage or spellcaster archetype. This means that while it has a number of long-ranged, fire-based attacks it’s also lacking in armor, so you can run right up and stack hacking at the weak points on its legs and chest. But, again, that’s assuming you can withstand it’s ranged barrages.

One of it’s most irritating moves is where it summons several flame minions. Because it can just resummon then, and fighting smaller foes is extra difficult with a large ark stomping about, you’re probably best off encasing them in an ice wall and leaving them be. You’ll also want to get a bit of distance when it grips its staff with two hands and shakes it, as it will soon loose a series of fireballs that are slightly easier to avoid at range. They’re easier to see that way, and if you wait until they get low and then run or roll underneath them you can get them to explode against the ground. The other fire spell it uses will mark an area on the ground before engulfing it in flame, which is fairly easy to avoid unless you happen to be climbing it at the time. Unless you have the energy to make some quick jumps, you will need to either tank the damage or hop off and try again later.

Other than that, it has the usual repertoire of stomps, ground slams, and grabs that other Arks use. As you might expect, fire-resistant armor is a must but don’t neglect at least a little bit of cold resistance or else you’ll be taking damage from your own ice walls.

How to Harvest the Ark of the Living Flame in Eternal Strands

To harvest the Ark of the Living Flame, you’ll need to first reveal its locus by smashing each of the gems on its body. You can find one on its chest, staff, and left wrist, and another two on the back of its legs. Those on the body will be covered in a round armor casing that must be smashed before the gem is revealed, but you can otherwise deal with them in the same ways you have dealt with all the other epic Arks. While the Ark likes to play with fire, it’s still susceptible to being frozen in place with enough ice while you clamber up its body.

The gem in the staff, however, can be a bit trickier. Because it moves around so much more it can be a real pain to smash, whether you’re trying to hit it with a bow or physically climb up there. The easiest way to get it to stand still is to wait until it slams the butt of the staff on the ground, then freeze it to the floor with a decent amount of ice. Then you can hit it easier with whichever method you prefer.

Once the gems are smashed the fire on the top of the Ark’s wide headpiece will go out and you can harvest it, just watch out as it can sometimes shake you off. Once harvested you can have Dahm spin the strand into your cloak to obtain the Ember’s Servant spell which lets you summon a little minion of your own. Said minion will distract and attack enemies, heal when standing in fire, and explode on death or when thrown with Weaver’s Grasp.
