In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the main mechanic involves Zelda using the Tri Rod to learn, create, and erase echoes of items and entities to make her way through Hyrule and solve puzzles. However, there are some tricks to it, so here’s a refresher going over how everything works.
How do I create echoes in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
Well, first you need to go through the opening introduction as Link. Then, after helping Zelda escape the dungeon where she was held, finish watching the story sequence. When you regain control of her, you’ll be in the Hyrule Castle dungeon. Tri and Zelda will be properly introduced, and you’ll get the Tri Rod to make your escape.
These initial moments will also go over how to learn echoes for inanimate objects and spawn them. If Zelda walks to up a glittering item, you can press ZR to “learn” how to make a copy of it. Pressing right on the D-pad lets you sort through all learned items so far, with the ones you’ve used most recently appearing to the left when you go through that inventory. You can then select what will be your active echo, exit out of that menu, and press Y to use it.
Getting echoes of monsters involves a bit more work than an echo of an item. First, you need to defeat the monster. Early on, the easiest way to accomplish this is by heading into your menu, spawning a rock, lifting that up, and throwing it at the enemy. You learn how to make a rock echo immediately after escaping Hyrule Castle and going through the secret passage to the beach. After you defeat a monster for the first time, you can then press ZR next to the miniature, shining version of it to “learn” how to make it. Note that it isn’t uncommon for some stronger creatures to need more than one power to be summoned, like an Ignizol, so you will only be able to have one around at once to start.
How do I erase echoes in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?
Once you summon an echo, you may realize it isn’t what you want or need. Maybe it even screwed up your plans, and now you’re stuck. It’s very easy to get rid of one or all of them around.
If you want to get rid of all summoned echoes, hold down the ZR trigger. This immediately makes everything vanish.
If you forget that as you are playing, there’s another option. That takes a few more seconds, however. Just… keep summoning echoes. Zelda can only have a few present in the world, based on how much power one needs to be around. If something costs two energy, summoning it a second time will cause the first to disappear. If it costs one, then summoning it three more times will make the first one disappear. She starts out able to summon three “points” worth of energy, but as you beat bosses and Tri levels up, that limit will increase.
But really, just push and hold ZR.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
