How do I complete Hubris Smiles Back quest in Diablo IV?

If you are left confused by the “Hubris Smiles Back” side quest in Diablo IV, you aren’t alone. After all, the side story has you traveling to two different locations, including a dungeon. To start the quest, travel east of the Sealed Archives Dungeon in Dry Steppes. Here, you will find a bone dust-snorting NPC named Ogai. The character will send you on a fetch quest to collect more bone dust from Skeletons in the nearby Valley of the Strayed.

However, the second part of the quest is where things can get a bit tricky. After sniffing more bone dust, Ogai will now move north to the Grinning Labyrinth. Speak to him again, and he will ask you to enter the dungeon to retrieve five Baneful Oblations. To find the item, you don’t actually have to complete the Grinning Labyrinth. If you venture halfway into the dungeon, you can obtain the needed Baneful Oblations by defeating both Elite Grave Fallen Shaman or smaller Fallen enemies. The Oblations drop randomly, so run around, taking out any monster you see.

After you pick up five Baneful Oblations, you can decide to either finish the Grinning Labyrinth or you can leave the dungeon. Speak to Ogai one last time, and he will ask you to “place the offerings on the Ritual Stones.” There will be five ritual stones set up in a circle around Ogai that might be hard to see at first. Walk up to each stone and interact with them to place the Baneful Oblations down.

And that’s it! The quest will automatically be completed after a hilariously-twisted cutscene. Completing “Hubris Smiles Back” in Diablo 4 will net you experience points and a cache. While the rewards aren’t too fancy, Ogai is certainly one of the more “unique” characters you can run into.

Diablo IV is available now on the PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. If you’re trying to earn better loot, here’s how to reset World Tiers.
