How to Complete the Apprentice Assessment Quest in Magical Delicacy

The “Apprentice Assessment” quest you get from Cassie is one of the first major story-related missions you will encounter in Magical Delicacy. For this quest, she wants to assess your culinary skills, so she requests you deliver a cooked meal that hits specific criteria. Doing this mission as soon as possible will massively benefit you, as after you have completed this quest, you will gain access to the fountain network and be able to fast-travel to certain parts of the map.

How do I find Cassie for the “Apprentice Assessment” quest in Magical Delicacy?

As you might anticipate with a Metroidvania title, even starting the quest will involve you traversing through quite a bit of the map. From the storefront, go left and enter the Central Plaza. Continue to go left until you reach the next area. When you reach the new section, stay on the top level of the platforms and go left. When you reach the next space, go up the mini platforms. You will eventually come across a staircase. Climb this and enter the next section.

In the new area, double jump onto the staircase above, navigate through the moving platforms, and continue until you reach the top of the bell tower. There will then be more platforms. Keep following them until you hop on a ledge on the left-hand side and go to the next part of the map.

Now, go up the platforms until you reach green terrain on the right side. Keep going right, and you will come across a mini cliff drop. Don’t fret! You have not reached a dead end. Go down this mini-drop, then go right, and you will find more platforms. Go up these, and you will come across Cassie’s hut. Now you can take this quest.

How do I get all the items for “The Apprentice Assessment” quest in Magical Delicacy?

After you have talked to Cassie, “The Apprentice Assessment” quest will begin. You will need to cook a meal that includes roasted, exotic, and handcrafted ingredients and cannot be a stew. Luckily, one ingredient can meet multiple criteria, and the Scarlet Tomato will hit all three after it’s roasted. However, you will then need to cook a meal with the Roasted Tomato, as it’s not classified as a meal. I opted to add Noodles to create a Vegetable Tempura.

Before gathering the ingredients, you will need to ensure you have purchased a mortar and pestle, an oven, and a pan from the blacksmith who resides in the Central Plaza. These are the apparatuses you will use to cook the ingredients.

To get the Scarlet Tomato, you will need to buy it from Victor. He runs a vegetable stand in the Upper Market. The Scarlet Tomatos are the most pricey item in his shop and will cost you 56 red beads.

You will need to buy Braided Wheat and Rocksalt as well, which both cost eight red beads from the bakery. These will be used for the Noodles. If you are unsure where the bakery is from the Central Plaza, go right into the next part of the map, and you should stumble upon it.

How do I cook all the items for “The Apprentice Assessment” Quest

Now that you have gathered the ingredients in question, it’s time to get to the magic of cooking. To create the Roasted Tomato, put the Scarlet Tomato into the oven, then pick them up after they’ve been cooked.

To make the Noodles, use the mortar and pestle to grind the Braided Wheat into Wheat Flour. Then use the cutting board to chop the Wheat Flour and Rocksalt together to create Noodles. 

After this, put the newly created Noodles and Roasted Tomato onto a pan and cook them together to create the Vegetable Tempura. Head back to Cassie’s hut and deliver the Vegetable Tempura to Cassie.

Magical Delicacy is now available on the Xbox One, Xbox X/S and PC via Steam, and the Switch version will arrive in August 2024.
