How to Change Party Members in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Once Junah joins your party in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll finally be able to change party members and swap characters on your team around. While it will take a moment to do so, even after she becomes one of the crew, you get two options to move folks around.

How do I change my party members in Metaphor: ReFantazio?

After Junah joins, you need to wait until after you meet up with her in Grand Trad outside the cathedral. While she is a part of the team prior to this point, she isn’t in the type of capacity that would also involve swapping people around. A brief tutorial will take place introducing the mechanic.

If you aren’t in the middle of a battle, you change allies via the main menu in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Open it up and choose the party option. Press the confirm button when you have highlighted the person you want to remove from your four-person party. Then, move to the person you’d like to replace them with. Press the button when they are highlighted to confirm you want them on the team. Make sure they are also in the front or back row as needed, based on their Archetype.

If you are in the middle of a fight, press the L1 trigger. This will bring up the Order menu that lets you select tactics. Once you have Junah around, bringing the number of potential characters for a fight up to five, you can then change your party members in the middle of a Metaphor: ReFantazio fight by selecting the Party: Switch Teammates option. Note that this will use up a single action point in the fight. Even though this will use up one “action,” I highly recommend doing so whenever you think swapping someone else in to take advantage of their Archetype or moveset will help.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There is also a demo available.
