How to Beat Tsumugi in Reynatis?

Reynatis is a JRPG adventure heavily inspired by PS2 classics. Throughout the course of the game, you will encounter several tricky boss battles, with one of them being Tsumugi. Without heading into spoiler territory, Tsumugi is a character you will fight several times in Reynatis. You will first come across her in Chapter 5. She is the first enemy in the game where barriers are properly introduced, so it may not initially be clear how to inflict damage.

How to break Tsumugi’s barrier in Reynatis

Unlike most monsters you encounter in Reynatis, how you break Tsumugi’s barrier is different. If you try to attack her normally, no matter what character you use, it will inflict zero damage.

To break her barrier, you will need to enter the suppressed state and dodge her attacks. But there is a catch – it has to be a close-quarters attack. This is important because if you dodge a melee ranged attack, time will slow down, and a magic circle will appear. If you keep holding down the dodge button and immediately let go the moment the magic circle is full, it will do a particular blast manoeuvre, breaking her barrier.

When the battle begins, she will immediately summon four floating monsters. Switch into Ukai as he can shoot at them far away with his guns and take them out quickly. Then, use the technique above to destroy her barrier. We recommend using Sari, as she is the speedier character out of the bunch. While you are trying to break her barrier, make sure to avoid the freeze attack, which she can also do at close range.

When you have broken her barrier, your MP meter should be maxed out, so use the Burst Liberation move to slow down time and get a few sneaky attacks in. Tsumugi’s barrier will be down for a short period now, so try to land as many attacks as possible. After a while, she will put her barrier back up, and you will have to repeat this process.

Another aspect that can significantly help this boss battle is using the Final Menace attack, as it will inflict damage regardless of whether Tsumugi has her barrier up. There is a good argument for keeping this move when her barrier is present, as using this move will kill the newly spawned monsters. To build up this meter, you must either land attacks on the opponent or receive damage.

Reynatis will come to the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC in North America and Europe on September 27, 2024, and then in Australia on October 4, 2024.
