How to Beat Skorchill in Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

Skorchill is clearly based on the mythical creature, the Abominable Snowman, as you find this boss battle at the deepest level of an ice-filled temple. However, this yeti-like creature wears a protective helmet, requiring you to alternate your fighting style during the fight. This guide will tell you how to find Skorchill and how to beat him in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

When will I encounter Skorchill in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

Skorchill is at the end of the “Rift on Holy Mount Lanayru” storyline quest. At Hebra Mountain, you will meet Conde, a yeti who offers you shelter in his home during a terrible snow blizzard. You then discover his brother has been missing since he entered the snowy mountains. Your goal is to close the rift in the area and hopefully find his brother.

When you enter the Stilled World of Hebra Mountain, there are two boss battles, both of which reside in the Lanayru Temple. The first one is with a giant slime, which will keep multiplying into smaller versions of itself until it’s defeated. For this battle, you will want to use ice echoes like Freezard and Ice Octo, which both can be found in Lanayru Temple, as they can freeze the slime, making them defenceless to attacks.

At the beginning of the fight, the slime will try to squash you by bodyslamming to the ground, which will cause rocks up above to fall. Avoid these rocks, as they can cause quite a bit of damage. When the ice echoes have been successful with their attacks, the slime will become visibly frozen. Change into Swordsman mode and start attacking with your sword until the slime thaws out of the ice. It should then split into two smaller versions. Continue this cycle until the boss is defeated.

How do I beat Skorchill?

Skorchill will have three fighting phases that he will change between. The yeti will wear protective armour, making him invincible to specific attacks. The colour of Skorchill’s helmet horns will symbolise his weakness and the fighting style he will indoctrinate. The helmet will be blue when you start the fight, meaning he will use ice attacks and be susceptible to fire. Summon fire-flying echoes like Fire Keese and Fire Wizzrobe, as they will have more freedom to move around the environment (make sure to lock onto Skorchill with the ZL button on the Switch to help the fire echoes attack him).

When Skorchill’s helmet is blue, he will cycle through specific attacks, which you must avoid. The main attack he will perform, and probably the most annoying out of the bunch, will be him slamming down his bulky arms on the ice, as this will usually take out your fire-echos on the field, requiring you to resummon another one. The other two are not as bad to deal with. One involves Skorchill constantly spinning, like a Tasmanian Devil, so run to the other side of the room while he is performing this move. The other entails Skorchill jumping up and down on the ice, which will cause enormous ice popsicles to drop.

The armour protecting Skorchill will break after landing three fire moves, making him vulnerable to regular attacks. However, Skorchill will continue his attack-cycle above despite his armour no longer being present. In this stage, we recommend turning into Swordsman mode and attacking Skorchill from behind if possible, as this will make it tricky for him to land attacks on you. Using echoes like Sword Moblin Lv.3 and Ball-and-Chain Trooper are also solid picks for additional damage.

Eventually, Skorchill’s armour will return, and the helmet thorns will now be red, representing he is now using fire attacks and will now be weak to ice moves. You will want to use echoes like Ice Wizzrobe and Ice Keese to attack Skorchill, as this will break down his armour. The environment will also change during this transformation, as the ice underneath will melt, leaving a normal floor.

In this phase, Skorchill will adopt two fire attacks. The main move Skorchill will use is spitting several fireballs in succession, which you will want to avoid. This will likely take out your echoes on the field, so make sure to resummon them if that happens. The other is a massive fire tornado. Like previously, when three moves have successfully landed on Skorchill, the armour will break, and he will be vulnerable to traditional attacks again. Skorchill will continue using the fire moves above, so be mindful of these manoeuvres when turning into Swordsman mode and trying to attack.

After this, Skorchill will enter the last phase, where one horn on the helmet will be blue and the other red. This will require you to hit the corresponding horn with the element that it’s weak to. You will want to use an ice echo for the last attack, as fire is the element in the middle of the helmet. Skorchil will now adopt all the moves from the previous two fighting phases, which makes it easily the most challenging part of the boss fight. When the armour breaks, turn into Swordsman mode and land the last attacks needed to slay the boss. When you finally beat Skorchill, the creature will leave a Piece of Heart behind.
