How to Beat Mogryph in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The goggle-wearing mole called Mogryph is surprisingly tricky when you consider this is one of the first boss battles you will encounter in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. However, there are several things you can do to make this fight substantially easier. We explain where you will find Mogryph and the best method for beating him.

When will I encounter Mogryph in Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom?

You will clash with Mogryph during the finale of “A Rift in the Gerudo Desert” quest when you finally reach the last floor of Gerudo Sanctum. Like Eldin Temple, two boss battles lay within Gerudo Sanctum, one with an echo of Link and the other with Mogryph.

In the boss battle with Echo Link, he will primarily attack you with his bow. We recommend sticking with long-ranged echoes, like Boomerang Boarblin or Tektite, for this fight. Echo Link will duplicate himself at one point, meaning you will fight three echoes of Link simultaneously.

As long as you have an echo on the field, all three Link’s should prioritise attacking the echo, so make sure you retain space away from the echo Link’s, and the fight should not take too long. After you have completed this battle, you will gain the Bow of Might for Swordsman mode. Continue going through Gerudo Sanctum, and you will come across Mogryph in the last room.

Before heading into this boss battle, we encourage you to get Gerudo Sandals in the shop at Gerudo Town, as this will help you massively with the second phase. In the beginning stages of the fight, Mogryph will borrow underground and hurl a ton of sand at you. Keep a healthy distance from Mogryph, and use echoes like Peahat and Boomerang Boarblin.

Eventually, Mogryph will attempt to charge towards you. While the mole prepares his attack, dash to one of the four statues in the corner of the room. When Mogryph begins to head towards you, run away from the location so it headbutts the statue instead of you. If done correctly, Mogryph will become unconscious. Switch into Swordsman mode and attack him as many times as possible.

In the second phase of the match, the room’s environment will change, as quicksand will engulf most of the floor, leaving only a few areas of sand. The remaining statues will also sink into the ground and become unusable. Mogryph will then burst out his wings and fly around the room.

This form will immediately use a new move, unleashing three sand tornadoes. The attack will dominate a large part of the room. This is why we recommend getting the Gerudo Sandals before the fight, as it will allow you to move around and avoid these tornadoes seamlessly.

However, if an echo walks into the quicksand, it will be swallowed up. It would be best to focus on avoiding Mogryph attacks in this phase. But if you still want to try and get a few cheeky attacks in, summon long-ranged echoes like Boomerang Boarblin on the sand.

The flying mole will then chase you again. You will want to summon a boulder echo this time when he heads towards you. Mogryph will then become vulnerable. Turn into Swordsman mode and attack the boss. You will probably do this pattern 2-3 times until you defeat him. When you finally beat Mogryph, you will earn a Piece of Heart.
