Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom pays homage to previous entries within the series, and the inclusion of the notorious side boss Lanmola is another nod to its legacy. The centipede creature might seem elaborate to defeat initially, but the fight is relatively straightforward when you learn its movement pattern. You will also have to beat a Lanmola to complete a side quest. Here, we explain how to find all three Lanmolas, what you need to do to beat them, and how to fulfil the requirements for the “Wild Sandstorms” side quest.
Where Can I Find the Lanmolas?
Before you look for the Lanmola creatures, you will need to buy the Gerudo Sandals, as this item allows you to walk on quicksand, which will be essential for the fight. You can buy the Gerudo Sandals in the shop at Gerudo Town for 400 rupees.
Two Lanmolas lurk around the desert area (there is a third one, but we will address that later). The Lanmola’s presence will bring a sandstorm, meaning their location is concealed on the map. However, we will give details on where they are.
To find the Green Lanmola, you must go east from the Oasis. If you keep walking in this direction, you will encounter a sandstorm. Keep looking within the sandstorm, and you will come across a pit of bubbling sand. Walk towards it, and the immediate area will become engulfed by quicksand, where the Green Lanmola will emerge.
For the Red Lanmola, you will want to go northwest from the Oasis. Again, it will hang around within the sandstorm, so continue looking until you find the bubbling sand, and the Red Lanmola should surface.
How Do I Beat the Lanmola?
Fortunately, the way you beat all three Lanmolas is identical. Lanmola will borrow in and out of the quicksand. While it’s borrowing underground, you will want to avoid its pathway, as if you come into contact with the creature, it will inflict damage. When digging in the ground, big rocks will start flying across the environment, which you will also want to avoid.
When the Lanmola’s tail is visible above the ground, use Tri to bind to the creature and walk backwards. This will cause the beast to be flung on its back, making it vulnerable to attacks. Transform into Swordsman mode and begin a barrage of assaults. After a short period, it will flip around and start its attacking cycle again.
You can also use echoes to help serve additional damage, but they are not the best at navigating the quicksand, so you must be mindful of how you utilise them. We liked using the Peahat echo here, as it will slightly levitate above the ground, so it is unaffected by the quicksand, allowing it to move normally. You will want to continue using the abovementioned technique until you beat the Lamola. When the creature is defeated, it will leave behind rupees.
How Do I Beat the “Wild Sandstorms” Side Quest?
After defeating both Lanmolas, you will want to head to Gerudo Town and go into the building left of the palace. You will find two Gerudo Soldiers training. When you initiate a chat with them, they will tell you how a new Lanmola has emerged within the desert, and they are training to beat it. Of course, defeating the centipede creature is one big competition between them, and they dare you to get involved as well.
To find the last remaining Blue Lanmola, you will want to head in the direction where you found the Green Lanmola. Continue going east until you stumble across three Gerudo Soldiers by the palm trees. Now, head northeast, and you will come across a new sandstorm, where you should rather quickly stumble into some bubbling sand. Repeat the method above, and it will drop a Piece of Heart when defeated.
Once you return to the Gerudo Soldiers, and you will be rewarded with a Gold Sash, a waistcloth that will protect you from being windblown.
