How to Beat Guangzhu (And Where to Find Him) in Black Myth Wukong

Guangzhu is an optional boss in Black Myth Wukong, and one that players will absolutely want to tackle. Outside of providing a proficient challenge, defeating Guangzhu will grant you access to a unique spell, which will allow you to take his form for a limited period of time during combat. If this sounds like it could be beneficial, it’s because it is.

When becoming Guangzhu, you will have a separate health bar which means you can use that time to deal devastating fire damage, and inflict enemies with burn. You will have access to a total of two different attacks; a more straight forward melee strike, and the ability to throw his polearm at foes. Overall, Guangzhu is a great form you can assume, and a spell I used for a majority of the game.

Now let’s get to where you can find Guangzhu.

Guangzhu is found within The Forest of Wolves, the first area in the game. Upon encountering your first shrine, stick to the left-most path, defeating Wolf Scouts and Wolf Archers on the way. Once you see a clearing with a shrine situated against the cliff wall, you’ll know that you’re close to Guangzhu. It’s an obvious arena, and when you enter the area, the fight with Guangzhu will begin.

At this point you should have unlocked the Immobilize Spell. This is done through progression, and there is no way to miss the Immobilize Spell. I suggest using this as much as possible during your fight with Guangzhu. He will have the same skillset as mentioned above, which means you will need to make use of your jump and dodge to avoid his double-bladed sword whenever he throws it. You might have the urge to spam your dodge but do not do this. Black Myth Wukong does not have the same amount of invincibility frames as something like Dark Souls, or Elden Ring, and after the third dodge the Destined One will take a second to recover. So time your dodges well.

After laying on the heat, alternating between light and heavy attacks and making ample use of your Immobilize Spell, Guangzhu should go down. After that, you’ll receive the Red Tides Spell, and can head on your way to fight the main boss of The Forest of Wolves.

Black Myth Wukong is available for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X on August 20, 2024.
