Depending on the difficulty setting you decide to play Atelier Yumia in, some fights, especially boss battles, can be challenging. They may require you to rely on elemental items and good positioning to your advantage to win the matchup. This is why you may want to have an ace in the hold if you’re struggling with a particular fight. Mana Surge is a state you can activate in battle, making your moves far more powerful, but it’s so strong that it has the potential to put a physical strain on the character. Here is everything you need to know to utilise the mana surge state in Atelier Yumia.

How Do I Unlock the Mana Surge State in Atelier Yumia?
Before you can enter this berserker-like state in battle, you will need to unlock it. The requirements are technically simple, although they are time-consuming. All the characters in your current party will need to reach level 50. You should naturally reach this level while progressing through the primary campaign.
However, if you want to speed up this process, make sure to check out our guide on how to level up fast. When you reach level 20 and level 40, you will unlock new moves to use in battle, so it could be beneficial to level up sooner rather than later. Once your whole team is level 50, the next time you enter a battle, you will have the potential to enter the Mana Surge state.

How Do I Activate the Mana Surge State in Atelier Yumia?
When you engage in combat, there will be an empty bar on the left side of the screen. This represents the amount of environmental mana you have collected so far. If you use items in battle, it will slowly fill up this meter. Make sure you have four items equipped on your character, as this will allow you to alternate between moves. Even if one item is on a cool-down period, you may be able to use other items to fill up the meter.
Once the bar is maxed out, you can enter the mana surge state by pressing back on the Xbox Controller (or the G key). In this state, your regular attacks will turn into surge skills, which will deal far more damage to the opponent. The environmental mana bar will slowly decrease when you are in the mana surge state. If this bar reaches zero, it will start eating up your character’s HP until they die on the battlefield. To make matters worse, if they are KO’d in this manner, they will enter a state called “mana-exhausted”, which will not allow them to be revived for the rest of the match.
However, it is possible to exit the mana surge state. Before the environmental mana bar runs out, press back on the controller, and you will leave this state while performing the special move called maximised mana surge (which is different for each character). The mana surge state can be a viable strategy to use in fights, especially in boss battle scenarios. But pay attention to the environmental mana bar so you’re not caught out and die by accident.
