Pikmin 4 is the latest installment in Nintendo’s long-running Pikmin series that sees you rescuing Captain Olimar with the help of the tiny plant-like creatures. And yes, you can play with a friend like in Pikmin 3. Multiplayer returns, and there’s actually two ways to do so. Basically, only two Pikmin 4‘s players can ever be around.
How many players can I play Pikmin 4 with?
Like in Pikmin 3 (and in Pikmin 2‘s Challenge Mode), which allowed you to play with a friend, Pikmin 4 has a two-player cap, which includes you. This means that you can only play with one other person. There’s no four-player co-op this time around!
Story co-op play is limited in that player two doesn’t have their own little human running around rescuing stranded wayfarers. Instead, they control the Pebble Pitcher, which lets them throw rocks at enemies and interact with the environment by using an on-screen cursor.
There’s also the Dandori Battle mode, where two players can either team up against an AI-controlled enemy or go head-to-head with each other to collect Treasure. Whoever has the most points racked up once the time limit is up wins.
Does Pikmin 4 have online multiplayer?
No, Pikmin 4 does not have online multiplayer. This means that if you wish to play with a friend or family member, it must be in person via couch co-op.
Pikmin 4 is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. If you’re looking for Purple Pikmin, here’s where to find them.
