How long will it take me to beat Final Fantasy XIV?

New patches come out regularly for Final Fantasy XIV, often adding new content and quests. This means that you’ll never truly complete the game, not until Square Enix pulls the plug, anyway. Final Fantasy XI is still going after 21 years, so that may be a while, if ever.

That said, FFXIV: A Realm Reborn and its four expansions—Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker—can all be worked through and finished. Though how long it will take you depends on how much you focus on content outside of the Main Story Quests.

Here’s how long it approximately takes to beat Final Fantasy XIV and each of its expansions if you only focus on the main scenario and nothing else:

  • A Realm Reborn: 200 hours.
  • Heavensward: 98 hours.
  • <

  • Shadowbringers: 105 hours.
  • Endwalker: 80 hours.

If you plan on jumping into additional content outside of the main campaign, including EX Trials, mount farming, material farming, and class grinding, you can expect to play for the following hours, at the very least:

  • A Realm Reborn: 1,400 hours.
  • Heavensward: 200 hours.
  • Stormblood: 200 hours.
  • Shadowbringers: 320 hours.
  • Endwalker: 700 hours.

How long it’ll take to reach the current patch content depends entirely on how much time you want to spend on non-story activities, so your mileage will vary. But expect to spend a good 500 hours minimum—it’s definitely not a game you can rush through. Prepare for a long grind.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on the PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. A paid subscription is required.
