FF7 Rebirth has a lot of deep systems to its combat, including equipment slots that can let characters equip materia to use spells such as wind, lightning, healing, and more. However, players can also use equipment slots to link materia in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
How Link Materia works in FF7 Rebirth – explained
In FF7 Rebirth, Link Materia is when you have equipment that includes two materia slots connected to one another. In the early game chapters, most materia slots are individual. However, as you progress through the campaign, you will find more weapons and accessories with slots that fit two Materia. The latter is what you want for Link Materia. How it works is you pair two materia together that feed off one another in an intriguing way.
For your convenience, we have provided an image that shows what Link Materia in FF7 Rebirth looks like below:
For the most part, this is basically pairing a blue-colored materia with any other type. The blue materia is solely there to be used as link materia. They may boost a certain materia it pairs with or change it in some way. Mastering this more hidden part of materia can be highly valuable in battles.
Best Link Materia Combos in FF7 Rebirth
Here are some of our favorite link materia and combos we like to use in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth:
- Any magical materia (lightning, fire, healing) and Level Boost Materia
- This is great early on in the game when you haven’t upgraded materia yet. It turns a level one materia into a level two materia and so on. This gives you access to better spells.
- Magnify and attack spells (wind, etc)
- This extends the range of your materia’s spells. This lets you hit further away, which is great for your ranged characters like Barret and Aerith.
- Auto-Cast Materia and attack/healing materia
- This is by far the most powerful and recommended link materia. It is there to give to your two party members you won’t actively control. It ensures they use their attack and even healing spells without your involvement. Essential to dealing damage and staying alive in the tougher fights.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available right now exclusively for PlayStation 5.
