YouTubers who scream at horror games will have a very, very hard time playing through Stifled, a sound-based horror game where the monsters can follow the noise of someone shouting into a headset.
Stifled uses a microphone, as sound waves are required to see in the pitch black environments. Making sounds will reveal the world to the player, bouncing noise off of close objects.
This same sound that makes the environments visible will also alert nearby monsters to the player’s presence, requiring they carefully choose when to be quiet and when to speak. Those prone to making loud noises, breathing hard, talking to themselves, or screaming, will find monsters aggressively hunting them down unless they quiet themselves.
Stifled will release on Steam on December 13, 2016.
