The Kingdom Hearts series is known for its colorful characters from various universes as well as a complicated story. According to Tetsuya Nomura, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi had a hand in that. [Thanks, Wccftech.]

In an interview with Italian website Multiplayer.it, Tetsuya Nomura revealed that it was Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Final Fantasy, who suggested Kingdom Hearts’ story to be more complicated.

Tetsuya Nomura originally wanted Kingdom Hearts to be a simple adventure where the main character goes on to defeat a witch. However, it was Hironobu Sakaguchi who told him that it wasn’t a good idea, and suggested to create a story that Final Fantasy fans would like.

This would end up being the only suggestion he gave Nomura prior to leaving the company and founding Mistwalker. Before leaving, he told Nomura that he knew Kingdom Hearts would end up being a fun game and that he wouldn’t need to play it to know.

Nomura went on to say that his generation is probably the last one to have worked directly with Hironobu Sakaguchi, and even though they haven’t spoken in a few years, he feels that he has inherited the Final Fantasy creator’s “spirit” in making games.
