Higurashi When They Cry Mei was announced by D-techno as a new smartphone entry from the series. The game will release sometime this summer in Japan, but we got an early peek through the new teaser website.

Higurashi When They Cry Mei announced for Smartphones

The game’s Japanese title is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei. It is a smartphone game being made by developer Smileaxe to coincide with the brand-new Higurashi When They Cry anime that is scheduled to begin airing in October 2020. It will tell a completely new story written by Kiichi Kanou with respect to the original work by Ryukishi07. The theme song is called “Frustration” and is sung by Ayane.  It will feature battle music by Motoi Sakuraba, known for his work in Star Ocean, Dark Souls, Tales of, and many other series.

It will be a free-to-play title with micro-transactions. We don’t have any gameplay details yet, but those of you who are interested can check out the pre-registration campaign:

The reward goals start at 10,000 pre-registrations and go up to 100,000. You can pre-register by simply following the game’s official Twitter account. You can also sign up here.
