Here’s How to Fight Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Abomination in Honkai: Star Rail

In Version 1.3 of Honkai: Star Rail, HoYoVerse added a new Stagnant Shadow boss, Shape of Abomination, to the Xianzhou Luofu. You can find it in the Scalegorge Waterscape. Enemies in the Shape of Abomination boss are ones that first appeared in Version 1.2, so players may already be familiar with how to deal with them. Shape of Abomination drops Nail of the Ape, which you can use to upgrade Quantum characters.

In order to access Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Abomination in Honkai: Star Rail, you need to first unlock the Scalegorge Waterscape map. You also need to finish the Stagnant Shadow mission before you can find the Stagnant Shadow on your map and unlock it as a teleport point. The enemies that appear in this fight are an Abundance Sprite – Malefic Ape, an Abundance Sprite – Wooden Lupus, and an Abundance Sprite – Golden Hound. The Malefic Ape is weak to Wind, Ice, and Fire.

The thing to watch out for is the Malefic Ape’s Wrathful Roar. This gives it three stacks of Gusto, which will cause it to Monitor a character who uses their Skill. Every turn until it runs out of Gusto, Malefic Ape will attack the character that has the Monitor debuff after buffing its own attack. This is highly dangerous depending on who it targets. You can draw the Monitor debuff away to someone else simply by using their Skill so you should do that to protect your squishier party members. Another thing is that the two wolflike Abundance Sprites can forward Malefic Ape’s turn when they die, so make sure you kill them when the Monitor is on the right character.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. PS4 and PS5 versions are in development. As of Version 1.3, Stagnant Shadow: Shape of Abomination is a permanent fixture in Honkai: Star Rail.
