Like in Genshin Impact, HoYoVerse implemented a pity system in Honkai: Star Rail. This will guarantee a 5-star character or Light Cone when you pull a certain amount of times. Using this, you can decide in advance if you want to pull for someone, as well as calculate how many Stellar Jades you have to farm to get your hands on a shiny new 5-star.
For characters (Character Event Warp and Regular Warp), the hard pity is 90 pulls. For Light Cones, it’s 80 pulls. There is also a 50/50. This means that if you don’t get the event character or Light Cone, then your next 5-star will 100% be the limited one. Around 60-80 is soft pity, in which there is a higher chance of getting a 5-star. So if you’re starting to get to that number on a banner you’re not hard committed to, you might want to consider putting down that phone or pressing that ESC button.
In order to calculate your pity to see where you are on your journey to hard pity, you have to use math. To start, open up your Details tab from the Warp screen. From here, you can also check your record. The record does not update immediately. If your most recent pulls don’t show up in the records, you have to wait a bit. Counting from your last 5-star, you can calculate how close you are. There are also third-party websites and apps that can count it for you, but their usage of Windows PowerShell can leave your system vulnerable to threats.
Incidentally, while it’s not really part of the pity system, Honkai: Star Rail will offer you a free permanent 5-star of your choice once you pull 300 times on the Regular Warp. You can check how close you are to your 300th pull from the Additional Rewards button. You can find it on the bottom right corner of the Warp screen.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on mobile devices and Windows PC. PS4 and PS5 versions are in development.
