To understand how to build Boothill, we must first understand his scaling. Fortunately, on paper, Boothill is not very complicated. The main meat of his damage comes from Physical Break, which means he wants plenty of Break Effect.

You should aim for at least a 200% Break Effect on Boothill, which you should be able to do with the help of support characters on your team. His minimum threshold for SPD depends on what Planar Ornaments you want to run him with.

  • Sailing Towards A Second Life
    • As his signature Light Cone, it makes sense that this is the best for Boothill. It increases his Break Effect by a whopping 60% at S1, as well as ignores DEF when he deals Break DMG. It also increases his SPD if he has over 150% Break Effect, which you should definitely go for in general.
  • Cruising in the Stellar Sea
    • Cruising in the Stellar Sea is a great F2P option because it’s a 5-star and it also increases Boothill’s Crit Rate. When he defeats an enemy, he gets a hefty ATK increase as well. This is perfect for his kit since the ideal method of using Boothill is that he defeats enemies he’s in a duel with as quickly as possible to move onto the next opponent.
  • River Flows in Spring
    • River Flows in Spring is a really good Light Cone for Boothill because of the SPD and DMG increase it offers him. The unfortunate thing is that the effect disappears when Boothill takes DMG. You can mitigate this by running Boothill with a shielder, but you can also live with it since the effect returns when his turn starts again.
  • Return to Darkness
    • Return to Darkness is a fairly good Light Cone if you’re going up against bosses because it has a chance of removing a buff when Boothill scores a critical hit. The problem with it is that it’s not as good with his kit compared to other Light Cones so it’s a good one, but not the best one.
  • Adversarial
    • At present, there aren’t a lot of Hunt Light Cones that mesh well with Boothill’s entire kit. But though it’s a 3-star, Adversarial isn’t the worst choice you can give him for now. It increases his SPD every time he defeats an enemy.

  • 4-pc Thief of Shooting Meteor
    • The best set for Boothill is a full 4-pc of Thief of Shooting Meteor. It provides a lot of Break Effect, as well as restores his Energy after a Weakness Break. This is very useful for him, as his Ultimate can deal a lot of damage while also delaying the enemy’s turn.
  • 2-pc Thief of Shooting Meteor, 2-pc Watchmaker, Master of Dream Machinations
    • This chimera set combines the Break Effect bonuses from both Thief and Watchmaker. Since all Boothill needs is Break Effect, this isn’t exactly that bad if you have good substats on them. But it should be seen as a placeholder until you have enough good Thief Relics.
  • 4-pc Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge
    • This is one of the best Relic Sets you can use for Boothill if you run him with the Harmony Trailblazer. It greatly buffs his Break Effect, as well as lets him deal more DMG when he hits Super Break. You will need a minimum of 250% Break Effect (at least in battle) to get that second effect though.
  • 2-pc Thief of Shooting Meteor, 2-pc Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
    • This is yet another chimera set in which you have the Break Effect bonus from Thief but also the SPD bonus from Messenger.
  • Talia: Kingdom of Banditry
    • This is the best Planar Ornament Set for Boothill because it increases his Break Effect so long as you have 145 SPD at the minimum.
  • Firmament Frontline Glamoth
    • This is yet another good Planar Ornament Set for Boothill. However, you should consider switching off to Talia when you can. Break Effect DMG and normal DMG don’t use the same calculation, which means no matter how fast you make your Boothill, he won’t be able to enjoy the same bonuses from the passive ability.

Honkai: Star Rail is available on PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. You can only pull for Boothill in Honkai: Star Rail when the “Dusty Trail’s Lone Star” banner is live.
