As of Version 2.1 of Honkai: Star Rail, Aventurine is perhaps the best sustain unit in the game, meaning he can fit onto most teams you can put together. In saying that, there are some characters that he works particularly well with.
In order to decide how best to fit Aventurine on a team, it’s important to know how he works. While he’s a Preservation unit, he’s also similar to a combination of Hunt and Nihility characters. His Skill allows him to shield the entire party. He gains stacks every time the enemy attacks the party or an ally uses a follow-up attack, and he can use a follow-up attack of his own after he gains seven stacks. Finally, Aventurine’s Ultimate can deal damage to a single enemy, as well as inflict them with the Unnerved debuff. Allies attacking an Unnerved enemy can deal more Crit DMG.
As mentioned earlier, Aventurine being a sustain means he can fit in almost all teams in Honkai: Star Rail. However, his ability to cause a debuff and his follow-up attack capabilities allow him to work very well with fellow follow-up attack characters. He can also take work as a makeshift Nihility unit for your DPS if you find yourself lacking in space. While most of the teams I recommend focus on follow-up attacks, Aventurine works fine even without someone capable of them. It’ll just take a little longer to get his stacks.
Here are the Best Teams for Aventurine in Honkai: Star Rail
- Dr. Ratio | Topaz | Ruan Mei | Aventurine
This team focuses more on follow-up attacks, with Ruan Mei serving as the main support. Topaz can also act as a support in buffing follow-up attack DMG, but she’s mostly the sub-DPS here. As for Aventurine, his job is shielding the party and inflicting Unnerved so that Dr. Ratio can use his follow-up attack. If you find that Unnerved isn’t enough to consistently trigger Dr. Ratio’s follow-up attack, you can replace either Ruan Mei or Topaz with Silver Wolf or another Nihility unit. - Dr. Ratio | Yukong | Silver Wolf | Aventurine
This is yet another team in which Dr. Ratio serves as the DPS, though this is a mono-Imaginary team that requires Silver Wolf to plant a weakness. She can also be there to debuff the enemy for Dr. Ratio’s follow-up attack, which can also help give Aventurine stacks for his. Yukong is, of course, the support. - Acheron | Nihility | Nihility | Aventurine
Because Aventurine’s Ultimate provides the Unnerved debuff, he can also help to give stacks for Acheron. The other two Nihility units that Acheron needs (unless she has Eidolons) can be literally anyone. If you have Kafka, she’s pretty useful because of her follow-up attack providing stacks for Aventurine’s. - Himeko | Herta | Sparkle/Ruan Mei | Aventurine
This is similar to the first team with Dr. Ratio in which it focuses a lot on follow-up attacks. Himeko and Herta are famous for their synergy, especially in challenges like Calyxes, with their follow-up attacks. Aventurine would serve as the sustain and sub-DPS. As for your support, you can choose Ruan Mei to focus on her Break Effect boost (for Himeko) or Sparkle to help with any SP issues. If you don’t have them, you can also use Asta. - Jing Yuan | Sparkle | Topaz | Aventurine
Again, this is a follow-up attack team that features Jing Yuan as the main DPS. Sparkle is one of the best support characters for him, and Topaz acts as both a sub-DPS with Numby and a follow-up attack buffer with her Skill. Aventurine is, as usual, the sustain for this team. Jing Yuan and Topaz’s follow-up attacks can also help to trigger his follow-up attack.
