Tekken series Director Katsuhiro Harada talked about Tekken 8 features like crossplay and rollback netcode on Twitter over the weekend. On April 8, 2023, he answered questions about the upcoming game and confirmed it would offer both features. He also talked about Tekken 8’s character roster, noting it featured new assets and would have a larger launch roster than Street Fighter 6. He also suggested high specs might be best for native 4K.
First, Harada noted that there will be crossplay in Tekken 8. He also noted he tried to include it in Tekken 7, but Microsoft and Sony got in the way.
Crossplay? Of course I will.
BTW
When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused. https://t.co/I8b38YfePh— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) April 9, 2023
Next, Harada mentioned that rollback netcode will be in Tekken 8 and the team didn’t announce it or crossplay is because of people’s comments.
already installed it, and it already has what you want. The reason WHY we don't make big announcements like cross-play is Cuz even if we make big announcements, people like you will only say things like, "waaaa! That's normal in this day and age."
So shut up & sit the hell down. https://t.co/ZA1ZKMV9gC— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) April 9, 2023
Harada didn’t mentioned exactly how many characters will be in the Tekken 8 launch roster. However, he did say, “I think it’s a lot more than Capcom-san.”
I think it's a lot more than Capcom-san.
Of course, character modeling, rigging, and costume design are all new assets, so it's hard work.
That's why we're trying to increase the number of launches. https://t.co/d4BOZYxRBM— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) April 9, 2023
So far, we’ve seen trailers for 12 Tekken 8 characters.
Finally, Harada mentioned that people who want to play in native 4K should make sure their PCs have high specs.
It's not confirmed yet, but if you want to play 4K native, the higher the specs, the better.
One thing I can say is that if you are in an environment where you have to worry about specs, I recommend playing on a console. https://t.co/eGuouFn2GH— Katsuhiro Harada (@Harada_TEKKEN) April 9, 2023
