Idea Factory International announced it will release Hakuoki otome games we’ve seen five times before in English again, this time on the Switch as Chronicles of Wind and Blossom. Kyoto Windsand Edo Blossoms will release digitally and physically, and there will be an Eastasiasoft Limited Edition.
Hakuoki is the story of a young woman named Chizuru who is searching for her missing father. She dressed herself up as a man and heads to Kyoto to find out what happened to him. She ends up encountering the Shinsengumi and joining their ranks, as they share a common goal. However, as this is an alternate reality series, the Shinsengumi here are also vampire-like supernatural figures known as Furies due to a creation of Chizuru’s father. Later releases split the game up into two parts, Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms, while also adding additional love interests.Â

We’ve seen this storyline, both in the original form and the two part adaptation, many times before. The game first showed up on the PS2 in Japan in 2008. However, since then it’s appeared in English on the PSP in 2012, 3DS in 2013, PS3 in 2014, mobile devices in 2015, and Vita and PC as Kyoto Winds in 2017 and Edo Blossoms in 2018). This new version will include an updated localization.
Meanwhile, we’ve yet to see Hakuoki SSL: Sweet School Life, the alternate reality storyline set in modern times with everyone as students and teachers, released worldwide. It appeared on the Vita in 2014 and Switch in 2023 in Japan.
As for the Hakuoki: Chronicles of Wind and Blossom standard and limited retail editions, those will be Play-Asia exclusives. Idea Factory International said pre-orders will open on January 11, 2024. The LE will come with stickers of the twelve love interests, an art book, and the soundtrack on a single CD. Â
Hakuoki: Chronicles of Wind and Blossom will bring the Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms otome games to the Switch in 2024. The game is immediately available on multiple other platforms worldwide.
