Sting’s next game is a tactical RPG where Julio wields a war god turned into a spear. While Sting developed titles are known for their complexity, Gungnir is said to be an easy to learn strategy RPG. You’ll get to find out for yourself on April 14. That’s when Sting will release a Gungnir demo on the PlayStation Store in Japan.
The news in Famitsu popped up with a few more details about the game’s combat system. An action sequence on the bottom screen displays the turn order. When a "0" appears over one of your characters its their turn to attack. On the left and right are the tactics gauge for your army and the enemy’s. You can increase this meter by taking over enemy territory, which rewards players with an attack bonus.
Tactics gauge points can be used for maneuvers too. Select scramble to disrupt the enemy’s chain of attacks by jumping the turn order. Boost lets you strengthen up to four nearby characters. Beat lets you attack an enemy continuously. This move can be enhanced if you capture more enemy territory.
Gungnir slated for release on May 19. If you have 40MB free on a memory stick you can install part of the game to cut down loading times.
