Gundam Breaker 4 Derivation Synthesis and How it Works

Gundam Breaker 4 has a large amount of customization options to help you tailor your custom Gunpla into whatever shape or form you can imagine. Additional parts can be added to staple new functions and aesthetic flavor to arms, legs, backpack and the head of your perfect mobile suit. But, what happens if you are missing the arm or legs of a certain mobile suit that does not seem to want to drop the piece you need for your perfect creation? There is a solution.

How Derivation Synthesis Works in Gundam Breaker 4

Derivation Synthesis is a system in Gundam Breaker 4 that allows players to take a piece that is related to a piece they are hunting for and combine it with another part in the inspiration line. Previously referred to as Scratch Build in the earlier entries in the series, the system is relatively the same: You use parts and mix them with other related parts to create a new piece inspired by or related to them.

For example, say you are missing the legs of the Helios Gundam, one of the newer additions to this game and a suit from Gundam Breaker Mobile. The suit is inspired by the Destiny Gundam from Gundam SEED Destiny, the Double X Gundam from Gundam X, and the Freedom Gundam from Gundam SEED. Using Derivation Synthesis, if you possess a leg unit of any rarity of these kits, you can combine it with the leg unit from another kit relevant to it to generate the Helios Legs.

How this process works is through the Gunpla Assembly System. By entering the Assembly menu and selecting a part, you can either Equip, go into Synthesis, or do Derivation Synthesis. Once in Derivation Synthesis, you will see a list of parts available to create based on the individual piece you select. Choosing one will require another piece to combine with to generate that new part.

For those worried that using a high rarity piece will deprive you of access to its skill slots and level, you don’t need to worry. When generating the new part through Derivation Synthesis in Gundam Breaker 4, it will retain both all the passive skills of the piece originally used, as well as its rarity and part level.

This is one of the best ways in the game to target individual pieces of suits that might be harder to acquire, either due to difficulty of the missions they appear in, or how frequently the suits appear in the game. Either than going through each mission to find the ones where the units you want the most appear in, or refreshing the bounty hunt missions until you see a build you are inspired by with parts that strike your fancy, Derivation Synthesis gives you access to a guaranteed piece and may be the key to completing the look, or the skill build, for a player’s custom Gunpla.

It does have one weakness, however. Not all parts can be attained through Derivation Synthesis so for some, like the Gundam Aerial or the Darilbalde, you may have to rely on the other methods to get the perfect piece.

With new DLC on the way, promising new suits alongside free additions of the Mighty Strike Freedom from the Gundam Seed: Freedom movie and the Gundam Calibarn from Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, even more components for your perfect Mobile suit will be available to gather and synthesize.

Gundam Breaker 4 is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. A Season Pass for five upcoming mission packs is also available.
