Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny originated as a trilogy of shooting games released on Sega Saturn between 1996 and 1997 in Japan. Bandai Namco added The Blue Destiny‘s storyline into the 2014 PS3 compilation Mobile Suit Gundam Side Stories and multiple SD Gundam G Generation games that feature the Universal Century timeline. Units and pilots from the title also appear in other Gundam crossover games, such as the Extreme Vs. series.

Bonds of the Battlefield II launched in July 2021 with 22 Mobile Suits. Bandai Namco has since gradually added more playable mechs in pairs, including those from Universal Century side stories and games. In September 2021, Gundam Ez8 and Gouf Custom from The 08th MS Team OVA joined the roster. In late March 2022, the company added Gundam Pixy and the original Efreet from the 1995 SNES game Cross Dimension 0079. The arcade game will have 32 playable Mobile Suits in total after Blue Destiny Unit 1 and Efreet Custom join the roster in late April 2022.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield II is available on arcades in Japan.
