Potentially one of the more anticipated PS5 racing games won’t launch in 2021. During a GQ Magazine interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, he confirmed Gran Turismo 7 will be delayed. He cited the COVID-19 pandemic as the culprit behind the game being moved from 2021 to 2022.
Though to be fair, we didn’t have the clearest confirmation of when Gran Tursimo 7 would appear before it was delayed. When Sony revealed it back in June 2020, it only confirmed the game is in development. Other hints along the way suggested a 2021 debut could be possible. One YouTube ad supposedly said it could show up in 2021 back in November 2020. That’s also when a Sony New Worlds to Explore PS5 trailer suggested it could be out in the first half of 2021. However, it didn’t show up during the CES 2021 trailer.
This is the second COVID-19-related delay to come up on February 23, 2021. Paradox Interactive announced Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 would not be out in 2021 as well. The pandemic previously delayed it out of 2020, and now that game also will have a new developer.
Gran Turismo 7 is in development for the PlayStation 5. Due to Gran Turismo 7 being delayed, it will now launch in 2022. The most recent release in the series is Gran Turismo Sport, which debuted on the PS4 back in 2017.
