How to beat Show Me Mastery Mode in God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla

The best way to beat the Show Me Mastery Mode in the Valhalla DLC is to learn the God of War Ragnarök combat like the back of your hand. I don’t mean this in a “git gud” sort of way. I mean, if you’re returning to Valhalla after months of not playing, maybe get the rust off first.

If you can’t ace fights in the story mode, then the DLC will mop the floor with you. However, you should quickly get the swing of things once you start Valhalla. Below is a list of tips to give you the edge when trying to beat the Show Me Master Mode.

Higher risk, Higher rewards

Playing on Show Me Mastery mode nets the highest rewards of any difficulty. Use this to your advantage. You want to snag as many permanent stat increases as you can. You do this using mastery points, which this difficulty gives you a solid amount. Every stat matters as you progress, so you don’t have to think too hard about your build. However, prioritizing health and strength is a good idea.

Focus on one weapon for your God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla ‘Show Me Mastery’ run

This may feel foreign to you, but pick a weapon you like and focus on it. I say this because the enemies will progress faster than you if you spread upgrades across three weapons. Also, the weapon you’re using affects what runes are in chests. The game will give priority to the benefits of your current weapon. You can use this to sort of specialize your build to a certain weapon more easily.

Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge

The core tenants to Dodgeball, but they apply here too. Obviously, the best defense is simply not getting hit at all. The enemies here get so powerful that they can shred a health bar. The idea is to be more evasive, and land blows when it’s safe.

This feels like the opposite of God of War gameplay, but it can be the difference of surviving or meeting your fatal end. Unless, of course, you opt just to be so aggressive they never get to attack. Good luck with that in Valhalla.

Look for health regen enchantments

Health regen will be your best friend in Valhalla. Enemies pack an insane punch, and anything that gives you a little health back is welcome. Look for relics and amulets that give you health regen as you complete runs. This way, you can also find ways to buy yourself time to get a little health back. Could make all the difference.

Take Your Time

These are runs, not marathons. Therefore, you should always be taking all the time given to you to make sure you’re making the right decisions. This includes your choices and how you approach enemies. You don’t want to rush with either, or you may be in trouble.

If, at first, you don’t succeed in God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla Show Me Mastery mode, try again.

The whole point of roguelike gameplay is getting to try again. Even on God of War Ragnarök’s highest difficulty, this remains true. Keep in mind that each run is just a piece of the overall attempt. It may take you a long time to overcome the trials, but each run should be compounding on the last. Use these loops to accept failure and to stress less about the “perfect” run.

God of War Ragnarök is available now exclusively on Playstation 4 and 5.
