Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Directors Reveal CG Adaptation Talks Began 5 Years Ago

Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, the Ghost in the Shell Netflix series that is done entirely with CG animation, is available worldwide. Now, to help people better understand this adaptation and how it was brought to life, the company has released a brief video interview with Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, the directors of the series. In the video, the two brought up how the first talks about the potential project first began five years ago before showing parts of the creative process.

Kamiyama and Aramaki’s names may sound familiar, as both have been involved with some notable projects. Kamiyama is behind some of the most famous Ghost in the Shell media projects, as he directed and wrote Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society. He also worked on Eden of the East and Cyborg 009 projects. As for Aramaki, he’s worked as a director on Appleseed and Evangelion: Another Impact and a designer on Bubblegum Crisis and Fullmetal Alchemist projects.

It begins with Aramaki saying about five years ago, he began talking to Kamiyama about this possible project because he wanted to work with him. Kamiyama went on to elaborate, saying that Aramaki expressed a desire to make a CG adaptation. Aramaki then said, “We worked side-by-side nearly everyday.” The two went on about the actual project, with Aramaki saying it was inspired by Kamiyama’s Stand Alone Complex, but went on to help reflect “what’s happening in Japan now.”

In addition to Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, Kamiyama and Aramaki have recently been working on other projects together. The two collaborated on the Ultraman Netflix original net animation and are directing Blade Runner: Black Lotus’ first season.

The first season of Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 is immediately available via Netflix. It consists of 12 episodes. Ghost in the Shell Unlimited Reality has launched in Japan.
