Square Enix gradually shares clips of different Final Fantasy XVI characters on Twitter, and the latest involves this installment’s Chocobo. It took to social media to offer a more focused look at the longtime series mascot. It shows a basic version of the character and also allows people to hear its “kweh.”
Here’s the just over 20 second Final Fantasy XVI Chocobo clip. Originally, this footage showed up during the PAX East 2023 panel. The bird is stationary during the footage, with feathers that are more of a muted yellow than in past games. It is wearing a saddle and bridle, indicating they will still be used as a means of transportation in the game. Just after the 20 second mark, it lets out its version of a “kweh” for this game.

As a reminder, Creative Director Kazutoyo Maehiro noted this will be a more realistic entry, which means “overly comical” characters won’t appear. However, Chocobos and Moogles will appear. We saw and heard a Moogle from Final Fantasy XVI for the first time back in December 2022.
Final Fantasy XVI will come to the PS5 on June 22, 2023. There will be a six-month exclusivity period.
