There’s no new Nintendo Direct for 2021 yet, but Nintendo did kick off the year with some news. During the evening of January 11, 2021, the company took to Twitter to reveal a new Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury trailer would appear. It’d be longer than usual, clocking in at two minutes, and offer new insights into the returning Super Mario game and its entirely new Bowser’s Fury islands.
Here’s the full video. As teased in the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct back in September 2020, the new area is a cat-themed location and seems to make use of the power-up introduced in the game. It also has Mario and Bowser Jr. working together. It also looks like it could have some levels and elements that are more challenging than the typical Super Mario 3D World stages we’re accustomed to.
Something colossal is about to happen! Mario and Bowser Jr. team up for an all-new bonus adventure in #SuperMario3DWorld + #BowsersFury, coming 12/02!

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury releases on Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021. It is immediately available on the Nintendo Wii U. There will also be Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo to get your claws on when the game appears. (As a reminder, that power-up was only usable in this game, but both Cat Mario and Peach have appeared in games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Odyssey.)
