The 2.1 update for Genshin Impact arrives the evening of August 31, 2021, and miHoYo is further promoting its headline character–the Raiden Shogun herself. With opening narration by Yae Miko, the head priestess of the Grand Narukami Shrine and close confidant of the Raiden Shogun, the Genshin Impact Character Demo underscores the Electro Archon’s fixation on pursuing an “unchanging eternity” and shunning the inherent impermanence of human matters. She’s also shown in action, wielding a polearm to vanquish her foes in a flash.

Beyond the Character Demo, miHoYo detailed the Raiden Shogun’s combat performance in other reveal. As a five-Star polearm character, she and the four-Star archer Sara Kujou will be the first new Electro-element characters added to Genshin Impact since release. Her Elemental Skill Transcendence: Baleful Omen reveals a shard of the Raiden Shogun’s Euthymia, dealing Electro damage and granting a special buff to the party. The buff “Eye of Stormy Judgment” adds additional area-effect Electro damage when party members damage enemies. Buffed party members also gain boosts to their Elemental Burst damage.

The Raiden Shogun also benefits from her fellow party members using their own Elemental Bursts frequently, as she gains an escalating level of “Resolve” when they do, indicated by Chakra Desiderata marks on her halo. These stacks of Resolve increase the effectiveness of the Raiden Shogun’s own Elemental Burst: Musou Shinsetsu. Drawing her sword, Musou Shinsetsu changes Baal’s fighting style to a sword-based one for the duration of the burst and infuses her attacks with Electro.

Genshin Impact is immediately available on the PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Nintendo Switch version is in development. The Raiden Shogun will arrive alongside the 2.1 update, which is scheduled to go live on September 1, 2021. Her Wish banner will also include Sara Kujou, the Anemo-element Sucrose, and Pyro-element Xiangling. The Epitome Invocation Weapon banner will allow players to roll for Engulfing Lightning, the polearm featured in the Character Demo.
