Genshin Impact Linked Phone Numbers Shown With Security Verifications

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The Genshin Impact linked phone numbers are appearing uncensored as part of the security verification in some regions. Folks on the game’s subreddit began sharing concerns after learning that the verification process will censor emails, but won’t censor the full phone number linked to the account. It also turns out this is an issue that has been a problem since at least October 20, 2020. [Thanks, TiltOnPlay and Skydtlee on Reddit!]

Here’s how the issue comes up. If someone were to, say, forget their miHoYo account password, then go through the reset procedure, the Security Verification step would allow you to verify your account with a linked email or phone number. With the email account, a number of asterisks will appear in the middle of the address to obscure it. However, Genshin Impact players who choose to “verify linked mobile number” may see their full and uncensored phone number below a message saying a message will be sent to that number.

Here is the image TiltOnPlay shared on the Genshin Impact subreddit that showed an uncensored phone number provided when someone was going through the verification process.

Back in September 2020, players expressed concern over Genshin Impact’s anti-cheat measures. The anti-cheat was running even if the game wasn’t or had been uninstalled. miHoYo pledged to fix it at the time.

Genshin Impact is available for the PlayStation 4, PC, and both Android and Apple iOS devices. A Nintendo Switch version is in development.
