After a long time in development, the wait will soon be over. Genshin Impact, the massive open-world action-RPG from Honkai Impact 3rd developer miHoYo has a firm launch date of September 28, 2020. As promised, September 28th is two days before October, which was when miHoYo pledged to have the game out. At least, it will be out on PC, iOS and Android. The PS4 version, which went into final closed beta in July 2020, has no release date yet beyond a request for fans to “stay tuned.” As for the also-announced Nintendo Switch version, there is no word on its launch date.
A pre-registration campaign for the game has also launched, promising rewards based on the number of pre-registrations, as well as for follows on social media and Youtube. Interested users will be able to pre-register for the mobile editions of the game on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. Storefronts for the PC edition were not announced, though if it follows the same pattern as the existing Honkai Impact 3rd PC version, the client should be made available for direct download from miHoYo’s site.

Genshin Impact is an action game set in the world of Teyvat, where players can control a large cast of characters as they explore and do quests. The game will be free-to-play, and include in-game monetization options, including a gacha-style character acquisition system. Its play mechanics are inspired in part by the free-form nature of titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and include environmental attacks, elemental synergy, and the ability to deploy a big glider in mid-air to coast along the air currents. The mobile and PC editions will support cross-save and cross-play, allowing players to share progress across platforms and team up with those on other platforms. As of the latest PS4 beta, cross-save and cross-play were not yet functional, though miHoYo has not specifically ruled the functionality out.
