Niantic is preparing to roll out more Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Characters from the third generation of games, which include Pokémon Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire, will begin appearing in the game later this week. They will be accompanied by in-game weather influenced by actual weather patterns.
The generation three Pokémon will appear in waves in Pokémon GO, rather than showing up all at once the second generation characters did. This means the first few characters you will see are Mudkip, Torchic, and Treeko. The announcement image and trailer released by Niantic announcing the launch show an assortment of characters. People may also end up seeing Absol, Beautify, Cascoon, Gulpin, Mawile, Minun, Plusle, Ralts, Seviper, Skitty, Slakoth, Wurmple, and Zangoose in this first batch. Additional characters will appear over the coming weeks.
Weather effects impact will also be seen. Niantic notes that patterns will be seen in-game and determine which Pokémon will be around and moves will be stronger than usual. Specific examples cited were Mudkips appearing on rainy days and Charizard’s Fire Spins dealing more damage on sunny days.
Pokémon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
