Gen Urobuchi Working on Ghost of Tsushima Anime

As part of the Sony’s Crunchyroll CES 2025 announcements, the company revealed a Ghost of Tsushima anime. It is working on it with Aniplex and KAMIKAZE DOUGA, and Gen Urobuchi is working on its story. It has a 2027 launch window.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime won’t be retelling Jin Sakai’s tale. Rather, the announcement noted it will pull inspiration from the Legends multiplayer mode released after the game’s launch. That isn’t based on actual history. Instead, in that mode a legendary assassin, hunter, ronin, and samurai go into other worlds and fight Oni to keep them from invading Japan. At the same time, they’ll also fight Mongols.

KAMIKAZE DOUGA should sound familiar. The studio has been behind a number of notable and upcoming series. For example, there are the Pop Team Epic and Ninja Batman series. It also worked on the Tales of Crestoria anime segments.

A few other folks working on the adaptation were revealed. Takanobu Mizuno will be its director. He previously worked on Star Wars: Visions. Gen Urobuchi, who is known for Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Saya no Uta.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime will air on Crunchyroll in 2027. You can find the game on the PS4, PS5, and PC worldwide.
